After a series of strokes in 2020, Charm was discharged from hospital in a wheelchair and told she may never walk again. But the retired nurse and NZ Order of Merit recipient had other plans.

“During my first NCF assessment, I stood at the wall bar - and in that moment, I felt hope.”

Determined to walk again, Charm began weekly group sessions at Neuro Connection, alongside hydrotherapy and community physio. Her goal? To walk by Christmas. She beat it by a month — first using a walker, then a stick, and now, she walks on the beach daily with her husband, no stick in sight.

“It’s not just about walking again. It’s about getting my life back — doing the housework, and hopefully, the gardening next!”

Charm loves the challenge, support, and connection she finds in class. With grit, guidance, and the unwavering support of her whānau, she continues to push for more.
